Guess what this is?  It is a reindeer.  A rainbow reindeer to be exact.  Erin Joy's teacher had all the students paint a rectangular brown body, a triangle head, and so forth.  All the other children had nice brown reindeer with a cute little red nose.  Not Erin Joy.

She started with a brown rectangular body, but she wasn't going to paint her reindeer brown.  She painted her reindeer "rainbow."  "Rainbow" is her favorite color at the moment.   All of her artwork is "rainbow."  She made a lovely rainbow pumpkin for Halloween.  All the other students had orange pumpkins.  Not only was her pumpkin rainbow, her page was filled with color.  She likes to fill the page with color.  And the table.  And her hands.  And the floor.  And her clothes....

Anyway, after the rainbow rectangular body came the outlining in black.  Erin Joy's outlining took over her picture.  She loves her reindeer and doesn't seem to care or even notice that her reindeer looks nothing like anybody else's.

Erin Joy loves art.  The only time in her day when she calms down long enough to sit still is when she is involved in an art project.  Her projects never turn out like her teachers intend them to turn out.  I am grateful for teachers who just let her express herself any way that she wants to.

That's my girl!  I hope the pressure of her peers, teachers, and adults never change who she is.   The world has plenty of brown reindeer.  We need more rainbow/black reindeer:)
