Erin Joy is working hard to master speech. She has had a hard time with the /p/ sound. Her current favorite movie is Pocahontas. When we come home from daycare, she often asks to watch "Fuckahontas." Silly girl! We'll keep working on her pronunciation....
I wonder where Rachel is hiding. Where can she be? I think I'll just rest on this lumpy, giggling pillow while I ponder where she could be hiding.
She is so tiny. I wish I could fold myself into a little ball and squeeze into a pillowcase......
I just finished reading Pay it Forward by Catherine Ryan Hyde. I have been wanting to read it for a long time. It is a great "feel good" book. It made me want to go out and do something nice for somebody. I'm excited to watch the movie now. I wonder why Kevin Spacey was selected to play the role of Reuben. Reuben is African American in the novel. His face was a big part of his character. Not only is he a black teacher, he is missing an eye and his face has been reconstructed using skin from his thigh because of an injury he suffered in the Vietnam War. I think they should have cast the role of Reuben with somebody else. Denzel Washington would have been my choice.
The stares that Reuben deals with are the same stares that Erin Joy gets. Her birthmark is much lighter now after several laser treatments and the stares and questions are not as common now as they were in the past. She sure gets a lot of stares after laser treatments when her face is spotty and black. This would be a great book for her to read when she is older. It is a great book for anybody to read.
I enjoyed My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. She is a great author. Anna was conceived to be a donor for her older sister who was suffering from leukemia. Her embryo was selected out of several because she was a perfect genetic match. When she is 13 years old, she decides to sue her parents when they want her to donate a kidney to her sister. She is tired of having her body used without her permission. Meanwhile, the older brother is out setting fires and causing trouble as his reaction to being neglected because of the attention given to his sick sister. Picoult uses each character's viewpoint in alternating chapters.
It is a great book about family dynamics and relationships. I enjoyed reading it. I just added both books to my bookshelf. I have a lot of books on my bookshelf. You'll have to click the "next" button if you really want to look at all of them.
Why was I late for work yesterday?
Perhaps it was because somebody wet the bed. (I'm pretty sure it wasn't me.) Everybody had to have a bath.
Perhaps it was because I couldn't find my car keys.
Perhaps it was because I had to scrape the ice off the windshield. We're having a nice winter spring.
Perhaps it was because I had to stop and take pictures of my girls saying "good-bye" to our cat so I could post the pictures on my blog. They carefully covered Bella, the cat, with blankets (towels), gave her stuffed animals, read her a story, and gave her a doll bottle before they could leave.
I'll try to be on time tomorrow. Really I will.
Well, Erin Joy fooled you on this one. Although she often pretends to be a dog, that was not the correct poll response.
If I ever ask her, "What do you want for breakfast/lunch/dinner?" She will ALWAYS respond, "Cookies" or "Marshmallows" or "Candy." I will respond, "No, you have to eat something HEALTHY."
I was quite amused one morning when she looked at her oatmeal and told me, "I not eat oatmeal. Oatmeal not healthy."
I agree Erin Joy, I agree. Oh how I wish all the junk food you love would have more vitamins and nutrients. Then I'd be eating chocolate and cookies every day too. We could leave the unhealthy oatmeal on the shelf in the grocery store where it belongs :)

She lives about 30 minutes southwest of us and has more snow than we have so her pictures are better than mine would have been. We only got about an inch at our house. It is supposed to keep snowing today...we'll see.
Yesterday, Rachel was busy being sick. She woke up and in her feverish state saw the snow from the window and started crying. "Oh, please don't make me go sledding. My head is dizzy." I laughed, gave her a big hug, and rocked her back to sleep. She sure is snuggly when she is sick.
The last thing I want to do is go sledding. Santa already made his surprise spring visit. No more Santa and no more sledding! I want to work in the yard and see the tulips again.....
The weather has turned cold and rainy again. I knew a couple of days of spring was too good to be true. As long as it is cold and rainy, we might as well clean our house before we end up needing to call these ladies:
Thankfully, our house isn't in that state yet, but we did find a few treasures.
How about a two-month-old peanut butter and cheese cracker sandwich in a lunch box? We found this treasure in the playroom. My kids don't take lunches in lunch boxes. Neither of them particularly like peanut butter, but I do vaguely remember making Erin Joy a peanut butter sandwich to which she added cheese crackers about two months ago. I had no idea it ended up in a lunch box in the playroom. It was hard and smelly, but not green yet. Glad it didn't sit there for another month. I just threw the whole lunch box away.
I need to do housework. I need to mow the lawn. I need to get rid of some weeds. So what do I do when the weather is FINALLY sunny and I have free time? Go see the tulip fields of course!!!
70 degrees!! Really! I thought spring would never come. It is supposed to rain for the next few days and temperatures are supposed to drop into the 50s again, but it's really coming. I'm watching the summer countdown closely. I need to add one more day because we have to go an additional day to make up one snow day. Just one though....last year was horrible. Lots of snow, flood, power outages causing no school. We went to school almost to July. This year June 12th is the last day! YIPPEE! I will tell my fourth graders that they need to work hard, focus, and be tenacious (great vocabulary word), but little do they know that their teacher is much more excited about summer than they are.
Anyway, I digress...back to the tulips. We were about a week too early. There were many tulips that haven't bloomed yet, but there were still plenty that have bloomed. The daffodils were in bloom and they were beautiful. Daffodils are my favorite spring flower. I love the poem "Daffodils" by William Wordsworth. "I wander'd lonely as a cloud that floats on high o'er vales and hills...And then my heart with pleasure fills, and dances with the daffodils." I read this poem to my aunt when I saw her for the last time. I also placed a daffodil on her casket. Daffodils weren't her favorite flower, but I'll still think of her when I see them. My heart danced with the daffodils yesterday.
Rachel and Erin Joy enjoyed running around a grassy field next to the tulip fields. They had fun chasing each other and throwing grass at each other. My favorite pictures are the ones with them running carefree through the grass. Oh, to be young again...
I took too many pictures, of course, so I had to make a little movie. I downloaded a free telephone ringtone of "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" because I didn't want to pay real money for a song I will probably never use again. After that song, I added a synthesized version of Vivaldi's Spring. Enjoy...
Guess why Erin Joy wouldn't eat her oatmeal this morning....
Usually she likes oatmeal. Not today!
